Are you feeling a little down? Gratitude truly IS a secret weapon! Stop and think of five things right now that you appreciate in your life. Keep searching until you find them. (Clue: “We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude” -Cynthia Ozick.)

Feel that shift that comes as a result? It’s a priceless strategy!

BUT…for those times this practice is not enough. It helps tremendously to have a “Dear You” file on hand. I’m talking…game changer for lifting your mood! Here’s how to do it:

Create a file on your computer (or use a journal if you prefer) where you’ll keep positive messages for yourself. In it write compliments people give you and achievements you’re proud of. Add to this file whenever you feel inspired, upbeat, motivated, and especially happy or excited about…YOU! When some aspect of your life is really going well, take a few moments to write down your positive thoughts.

You will LOVE the way reading the entries in this file will rejuvenate you just when you need them most! Call it “Dear (Your First Name)” and set it up as letters to yourself. You’ll find it incredibly inspiring to read these letters when you’re in need of a boost.

THIS WEEK why not get started? Create the file and just get it going with one entry. You’ll see it’s easy to quickly add new entries once you get it set up.

It’s a lifesaver. You’ll see…!

To your brilliance,

“Worry is equal to a prayer for what you DON’T want! Instead, have faith and trust in yourself, and expend your energy focusing on what you DO want.” (-Cari Murphy)

Try this trick — when you find yourself getting caught up in negative thinking: STOP and ask yourself, “What is good about this moment right now?” Keep focused on that question until you come up with an answer. Then go down THAT road with your thoughts. Notice how the negativity subsides…and how much better you feel.

“Remember, happiness doesn’t depend on who you are or what you have; it depends solely on what you think” (Dale Carnegie, 1888-1955).

This week — seek out positive people. They will help you push through any negativity you’re feeling and keep you confidently on your path to great success! Or as Mark Twain puts it: “Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions.
Oh, how I love this quote because he is so very right…and because this is something we need to remind ourselves of over and over again.

This week — if you find yourself having a “Why her/him and not me?!” moment, please think of Little Richard’s words. Nobody’s life is perfect. Nobody is struggle-free, no matter how it may appear on the outside. So take a deep breath and realize, “I’m going to be just fine. In fact, I’m going to be better than fine! One foot in front of the other, and I’m on my way to GREATNESS!”

“We lift ourselves by our thoughts. We climb upon our vision of ourselves. If you want to enlarge your life, you must first enlarge your thought of it and of yourself. Hold the ideal of yourself as you long to be, always, everywhere.”(Orison Swett Marden, 1850 – 1924)

I’m reminded of a young woman I know who went on to start her own, very successful, design company right after she graduated from college. She told me that what really helped her succeed was that she started taking on clients while she was still in college. How did she do that? She says — “I stopped thinking of myself as a college student seeking starter design work and started thinking of myself as a young professional up-to-date on current design practices seeking design work. That made all the difference.”

While you’re on your break, take a little time to DREAM! What excites you when you picture yourself doing it? Have some fun with this process. Then you’ll be ready to hold onto this “ideal of yourself.” Ultimately, that’s what will inspire you to get what you really want!
