The Inception of the College Guidance Guru
Many people ask me how and why I became a college-student mentor. So for those of you who are interested, thanks for asking. Here’s the background story to my College Guidance Guru services.
Mentor to my Own Students
I loved my years as a high school English teacher and always enjoyed a special rapport with my students.
Many of them stayed in touch with me after they left my class and sought my advice when they moved on to college. Not wanting to let them down, I researched the topics that concerned them, tapped into my own experiences from college and the corporate world, and offered guidance whenever they asked.
To my delight, the students flourished when they implemented my suggestions! And they came back for more! They were inspired, and I was truly gratified knowing I’d helped them so meaningfully. Their parents, too, were appreciative of another adult their teens trusted who was making a difference in their lives.
Over time, I noticed that the same topics would arise again and again with each new group of students who went off to college. I became adept at guiding them and eventually developed an arsenal of tried-and-true strategies that profoundly impacted students who continued to seek me out year after year. I also had an eye-opening realization as to why these strategies were making such a big difference in their lives. Here’s what I learned:
The fact is there’s a missing ingredient for many students at college!
And it happens to be a crucial ingredient. What’s missing is a system for using the college experience
to BUILD A FOUNDATION FOR LIFETIME SUCCESS.
To build this foundation, I knew students must…
First – realize that they possess the power it takes to skillfully overcome each challenge they face in college. It’s a power they have to locate and exercise, but it’s there!
Second – practice using that power in order to orchestrate their own success.
I realized, too, that it’s not difficult to build that solid foundation in college, once students learn how to do it. Not only that, but the sooner they learn how to accomplish this goal, the better. The difference it makes – in college and for the rest of their lives – is extraordinary, far-reaching, influential and potent. It’s a complete game-changer.
Response to a Need
So I committed then and there to provide the missing ingredient to as many students as possible, not just the ones I knew personally. I was eager to give more students the chance to benefit from this crucial knowledge, and to access my – by this time – proven system. I had seen what a difference it had made in my own students’ lives, and I wanted more students to have the opportunity to benefit from it.
Cognizant of how busy students are, my goal was to show them how easy it is to create a solid foundation for lifetime success in college, without skipping a beat. I knew, too, I had to offer my strategies in accessible formats that would fit right into students’ day-to-day lives.

Thanks to my commitment to expand my reach, I’m thrilled that students worldwide are now adding the missing ingredient to their college lives. It’s remarkable how many students I’ve been able to reach and help access the power they possess to orchestrate their own success. And they’re using that power to skillfully balance the many compartments of their college lives, while still having the fun that all students expect as part of the experience. They now navigate their college lives with ease and confidence AND use their newly-discovered power to step into success after graduation!
I reach out to students in a variety of formats. Some students prefer the convenience of listening to my Guided Inspirations and getting my newsletters as they go about their daily lives at college. Others are in the audience at my presentations or workshops at their schools. I also reach students through my new book, 5 Must-Know Secrets for Today’s College Girl. And I’m able to work one-on-one with a select few in my Private Mentoring Program.
But the important point is that they’re getting it…
and it’s having a huge impact on their college
and life success!
